Moving Traditions (www.movingtraditions.org) seeks a creative, entrepreneurial, and talented community organizer ideally with a background in Jewish education for a 9–12-month, temporary position (could be extended) to help pilot new ways of reaching families with our B’nai Mitzvah Family Education program. In the Moving Traditions B’nai Mitzvah program, parents and preteens share personal experiences with one another and reflect on Jewish wisdom that speaks to the topics of personal growth, menschlikhkeit, the lifecycle, inter-personal relationships, social equity, and communal responsibility. You will be responsible for organizing families who are not synagogue members, have 6th/7th graders, live in select neighborhoods in the New York City area, and are interested in a community family education experience. You will support and engage in:
• Networking and collaborating with local Jewish educators, clergy, and families.
• Pursuing all leads and engaging in 1:1 Conversations with interested parties.
• Recruiting families into the cohort.
• Facilitating parts of the program (online or in person)
• Reviewing and reporting on evaluation of the program.
Preparation for this program will likely take place in Summer and early Fall 2021. The program involves a series of family and/or preteen sessions to be facilitated and assessed between late Fall 2021 and Spring 2022.
Established in 2005, Moving Traditions emboldens teens by fostering self-discovery, challenging sexism, and inspiring a commitment to Jewish life and learning. Moving Traditions connects the issues youth care about most—body image, social and academic pressure, friendship, romance, and sexuality—to enduring Jewish values, fosters positive peer-to-peer relationships through our trained educators and mentors, and inspires participants to develop an ongoing connection to Jewish community. By promoting a more inclusive and expansive view of gender and identity for Jewish youth of all genders, we create a more vibrant, engaging Judaism that helps all preteens and teens to flourish. To date, Moving Traditions has partnered with more than 500 congregations, JCCs and other Jewish entities across North America. We operate six staffed regions in Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia.
Moving Traditions is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer committed to maintaining a non-discriminatory, diverse work environment. Moving Traditions does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, or on any other basis prohibited by applicable law in any of its programs or activities.
